5k Unites Breast Cancer Supporters to Raise Funds for Local Patients

BreastCancerStories.org, a local non-profit organization that provides support programs for local breast cancer patients, recently held its 3rd annual CelebratePink 5K Race/Walk to raise more than $20,000 for the organization. All net proceeds went to BreastCancerStories.org’s new local program My Breast Cancer Support (www.MyBreastCancerSupport.org), which provides support to patients at hospitals and cancer centers in the Seacoast area.

The fundraiser, which was part of the 2011 Portsmouth Community Road Race Series, celebrated an increase of 150 participants over last year’s race with 715 registered runners. “We couldn’t be more excited than to be joined by hundreds of community members who put on their running and walking shoes for our cause,” said BreastCancerStories.org Executive Director and Founder, Wendy McCoole. “This funding is critical for us to provide support to local patients and hospitals.”

My Breast Cancer Support also plans to raise money for support of local cancer patients by selling the New England Walkers for Knockers 2011-2012 Heroes of Hope Calendar — Stories of Strength, Courage and Survival. The creation of the calendar was designed to aid each of the featured models (one per month) toward healing both mentally and physically, raise awareness and educate community members and stress the value of preventative testing and routine exams, which enhance the odds of survival. BreastCancerStories.org is one of three organizations selected to receive a portion of the proceeds. The $25 calendar can be purchased now by visiting www.ne-w4k.org.
