After long deadlock, NH Senate Democrats choose Woodburn as leader

CONCORD — State Senate Democrats, after being deadlocked in caucus for more than six hours, compromised on Sen. Jeff Woodburn of Dalton as their new leader, succeeding the retiring Sen. Sylvia Larsen.

Woodburn was elected to his second term in the Senate on Tuesday.

The caucus had been deadlocked on Sen. Donna Soucy of Manchester and Andrew Hosmer of Laconia. As part of the compromise, Soucy was named Deputy Democratic Leader and Hosmer, Democratic Caucus Leader.

On Thursday the 14 majority Republicans chose to keep Sen. Chuck Morse of Salem as Senate President.

The official vote for Senate President will come in early December.
