This week’s surprise announcement comes from first term Senator Fenton Groen who announced today that he will not seek a second term. In an email, Groen says “with the current state of the construction market, my position as president of our family construction business requires my full attention.”
Groen’s decision comes just a week after Republican Senator John Gallus shocked Concord by declaring his retirement. Groen’s announcement brings the total to 6 Republicans who won’t seek re-election after an historic 19 member supermajority for the Republican Party. Groen now joins retiring Senators Gallus, Ray White, Gary Lambert, Jim Forsythe, and Tom DeBlois who is running for Executive Council. Additionally, Senator Andy Sanborn is resigning his senate seat to run in senate district 9 and will have a primary in his quest to return to the Senate.
