New Hampshire Democratic Party chairman Raymond Buckley has been recognized by Boston Spirit magazine as one of its “top 25 LGBT Power Players of New England” for 2015.
Buckley, of Manchester, has chaired the NHDP since 2007, is president of the Association of State Democratic Chairs and as a vice chair of the Democratic National Committee is the highest-ranking openly gay official in the DNC. He was vice chair of the state Democratic party before becoming chairman.
A former eight-term state representative, among the most prominent pieces of legislation he sponsored was the 1999 repeal of the state’s ban on adoption by gay couples.
Boston Spirit describes itself as “the premier LGBT publication in the Massachusetts and New England area.” It calls Buckley a “political power broker and ace organizer,” and credits him with a key role in the state’s adoption of its same-sex marriage law in 2009.
