EXCLUSIVE: State Senator Ray White Out After One Term

Raymond White, one of nineteen Republicans elected in the historic landslide in 2010, will announce today that he is not seeking re-election in 2012.

White, of the Republican rich town of Bedford, cited personal and business reasons for not making another bid for the district 9 senate seat which also includes the towns of Greenfield, Lyndeborough, Merrimack, Mont Vernon, and New Boston.

In a news release to be sent out later this morning, White says, “During my term, I have put the interests of the voters of District 9 first on a daily basis, even ahead of my family and my business, and was willing to do so since the voters gave me the privilege and trust of serving them in the New Hampshire Senate.”

“However, I cannot in good conscience make that same commitment for another term, as it would be unfair to my wife, Emily, and my sons, Randy and Justin, who have been greatly impacted by the commitment necessary, not to mention my business partners and customers, who also have been so gracious and understanding in my absence,” White concludes.

As Vice Chairman of the Commerce Committee, Republican leadership relied heavily on White’s experience on insurance and business matters to help shepherd important legislation through the senate.

White’s departure won’t come as a big surprise to many State House watchers given his open frustration at times with the political process.

The 2010 elections were also unique due to the number of business owners elected to the state senate. White’s departure highlights the difficulty of running a business while working as a citizen legislator in Concord. White is the first casualty of the business owner-citizen legislator group and many speculate that he will be just the first.

Republican officials who have an eye on the District 9 senate seat shouldn’t get too excited because the state senate will likely break up the towns in an effort to make surrounding districts more Republican.

Yeah the Distric 9 people just loved him when he made a plea to accept Obamacare ‘seed’ money to the Exec Council, as predicted.
