Fairpoint Communications Signs on with the Music Hall

The Music Hall, The Seacoast’s largest performing arts classroom, recently announced FairPoint Communications has signed on as a 2011-2012
Explore + Learn sponsor. The $10,000 sponsorship will help expand educational offerings and bring a host of new learning experiences to the greater region.

Encompassing a variety of programs, Explore + Learn at The Music Hall provides learning opportunities by way of the arts. From live theater for young learners, their teachers and families in our School Days Series, to Master Classes with world-renowned artists, the top-notch arts and artists which The Music Hall brings to the Seacoast each year opens the doors of knowledge for learners of all ages.

Through Explore + Learn, this season The Music Hall will be working with the girls of Arts in Reach (AIR) connecting the girls of Rockingham and Strafford counties to writers and artists who will widen the girls’ horizons. The Music Hall will also be working with AIR to expand its fundraising efforts.

“With the FairPoint Communications support of Explore + Learn, we are able to have this special relationship with AIR and connect the young learners with the female leaders at The Music Hall,” said Meghan Durkee, Corporate and Special Events Manager for The Music Hall. “We are so excited to see this funding go to work.”

The Music Hall’s recent addition of its intimate Loft location has been largely responsible for enabling the implementation of this enriching program. Not only has the chic Music Hall Loft been a venue for Explore + Learn but also it provides certain economic boost through show related spending that benefits many New Hampshire Seacoast small businesses.

Arts in Reach has been empowering teenage girls through the art community since its establishment in 1997. UNH art history graduates, Kristin Forselius and Amanda Tappan, founded AIR and have grown it from a simple summer camp to ten annual programs focused on dance, theatre, film, visual arts, and career development. The Music Hall and Arts in Reach will collaborate on an Arts Career day, bringing together the gifted teenage girls with a mosaic of outstanding women role models at the Music Hall. This introduction to the Music Hall’s myriad of leaders in the art community will further empower these young females and widen their horizons.

The upcoming Explore + Learn event “Discover Shaker Life,” on October 11, will give audience members insight into the unique utopian society of New England Shakers. Former curator for Canterbury Shaker Village and author of three books on Shaker furniture, Jean Burks, will present her intimate knowledge and examine the nuances of Shaker Life. This event is a prelude and most fitting introduction to the breathtaking dance performance Angel Reapers by the legendary Martha Clarke to be held at the Historic Theater on Saturday, October 22, 2011 8pm.
