Fashion Show to Benefit Special Olympics New Hampshire
When high school student Kristen Burd, of Concord, decided she wanted to
organize an event to benefit a charity she thought: high school kids, fun
clothes, Cinco de Mayo, and a gymnasium. That¹s when the Concord Spring
Fashion Show at Concord High School was born.
Kristen developed a special affinity for children with disabilities after
meeting, and subsequently babysitting, Liam Dennehy, a nine year old boy
with Down syndrome. Having seen Liam grow through the years and recently
begin skiing in preparation of joining Special Olympics solidified her
decision to organize the benefit.
Burd explains, ³The goal (of the event) is $15,000. That will send two
athletes to the World Summer Games and we plan on raising the funds through
sponsorships and ticket sales for the show. We have Concord students
modeling cloths and young ones too.²
The event will be held on May 5th at 7pm and the proceeds will go directly
to send two Special Olympics athletes from New Hampshire to the World Games
in Athens, Greece.
