Filing period opens for New Hampshire primary

Candidates are starting to sign up for New Hampshire’s yet-to-be-scheduled presidential primary.

The filing period opens Monday for candidates to get their name on the ballot. Secretary of State Bill Gardner set the filing period earlier than usual in response to other states that have been moving up their contests. He has said early December is a realistic option unless Nevada officials move their caucus back.

Candidates must pay $1,000 to get on the ballot, or collect 10 signatures from each county if they prove they can’t afford the fee. The filing period ends Oct. 28.
