Five new taxes in today’s ‘Maggie’s Tax of the Day’

At this point, it may not even be fair to call it a ‘tax’ of the day.

This morning Ovide Lamontagne’s gubernatorial campaign unloaded five fee increases included in one 2007 bill, HB 2, that opponent Maggie Hassan voted in favor of. The fees in question all involve vehicle registration and, per the press release, are listed below:

(1) three registration fee increases on cars, depending on weight, between 12% and 24%;
(2) the per pound registration fee for trucks by 12%; and
(3) the motorcycle registration fee by 25%

The presser further assails Hassan for “a 24% increase in state spending leaving us with an $800 million dollar budget deficit” while making “it more expensive for those New Hampshire residents with a job to get to work.”

Today’s entry in the Lamontagne campaign’s ongoing series comes on the heels of the Republican Governor’s Association launching a TV ad and minisite against Hassan on the topic of taxes, as well as an apparent shift in position by the Democratic nominee on toll fee increases.
