Gabby Giffords to lead discussion on women, families, domestic gun violence

Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will be in New Hampshire on Wednesday for the second stop of a nine-state tour to advocate for stricter gun laws to protect women and families.

Giffords is the former Arizona congresswoman who made an inspirational recovery after being shot in the head during a 2011 shooting rampage in Tucson. She will be joined by New Hampshire women leaders, law enforcement officials and domestic violence prevention advocates for a roundtable discussion.

Among those participating will be state Reps. Katherine Rogers, Sylvia Gale and Jan Schmidt, as well as Nicole Brooks of the Nashua Police Dept., Rose-Marie Balboni, a prosecutor with the Hillsborough County Attorney’s Office and Monica Zulauf, president and CEO of  YWCA-New Hampshire.

The event is being sponsored by the non-profit group Giffords co-founded with her husband, Mark Kelly, American for Responsible Solutions. It will be held at the Centennial Hotel at 12 noon, according to an advisory provided to the New Hampshire Journal.

Giffords began the nationwide tour on Tuesday at the University of Southern Maine in Augusta. Following New Hampshire, the tour will move on to Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Minnesota, Iowa and Oregon.

Announcing the Wednesday event in Concord, Americans for Responsible Solutions said, “Gun violence and domestic violence are a lethal mix in the United States, and access to guns plays a central role in rates of mortality.

The group says, “Women in the U.S. are 11 times likely to be murdered with a gun than women in peer countries, and more than half of all murders of women are committed with a gun. Abused women are five times more likely to be killed by their abuser if the abuser has access to a firearm. Domestic violence assaults involving a gun are 12 times more likely to result in death than those involving other weapons or bodily force.”

Giffords is no stranger to New Hampshire, having visited the state often as a guest of her friend, Democratic National Committee chair and Florida U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who has a vacation home in the state.

Americans for Responsible Solutions’ executive director Pia Carusone, is a former communications director of the New Hampshire Democratic Party.

Earlier this year, American for Responsible Solutions promised to help reelect Sen. Jeanne Shaheen and U.S. Reps. Carol Shea-Porter and Ann Kuster.

Yes Gifford’s leads a discussion but ONLY with women who are anti-2nd Amendment and who seek to ban guns. She kicked out women who are not of the same mindset. She isn’t about ALL women sitting at the table discussing but pushing gun control legislation with far left wing women. Gifford’s and her husband are nothing but a scam.

Good call. I thought that a “Round Table” discussion should have both sides of a dispute, not just a bunch of people sitting around patting themselves on the back and getting press. How about a real debate? Explain why they are talking about gun safety in the safest state in the union?

…and why aren`t they including women who carry and conceal carry (firearms) FOR self-defense in their roundtable?! Instead, they ask them to leave?! It`s all veiled attempt for gun control. They are not interested in speaking to ALL women – only those who agree with them.

They obviously don’t think women can defend themselves. My wife carries and I’m very happy about that. I know she is in good hands.

This was not a discussion with ALL women. It included ONLY gun-control advocates. “The tour is called “Protecting All Women” yet when women who aren’t far left wing gun grabbers attempted to sit in on the meeting, they were asked to leave. Not only was the whereabouts of the meeting not announced until this morning but when the location was discovered and women who are for 2nd Amendment rights wanted to simply listen in on the conversation, they were kicked out of the meeting. Gifford’s group Americans for Responsible Solutions no longer announces where they will be pushing gun control on their website.” Granite Grok

I really hate to put it this way but it’s getting hard to put it any other way. When it comes to liberal progressives it’s their way or the highway. If you disagree, you are wrong and a “hater”. You have no right to your own opinion no matter how correct it is.

I would like to sit in on this “roundtable” when in PA but it appears those of us believing we should be able to carry to protect ourselves are not welcome. When will this meeting be in PA and where?

You probably won’t know until the morning of the meeting and you won’t be invited. They are meeting with left wing legislators to push gun control for the upcoming legislative sessions this year.
