Updated: NHGOP chair has stern message for party activists who endorse Democrats

New Hampshire Republican Party Chair Jennifer Horn on Tuesday issued a warning to Republican activists who openly endorse Democrats: they will not be members of the Republican State Committee on her watch.

Horn wrote the stern message on the party Facebook page after word circulated that some Republicans have placed signs for Democratic Executive Councilor Chris Pappas on their properties alongside signs for Republican candidate for governor Walt Havenstein.  The message also came after Pappas unveiled a list of 50 Republicans supporting him.

Those properties appeared to include the Copper Door restaurant in Bedford, owned by businessman Bill Greiner, a long-time Republican activist who co-hosted a reception for Havenstein but who in 2011 and 2012 contributed a total of $4,500 to Sen. Jeanne Shaheen’s campaign.

(Update:)

But Greiner Wednesday morning said the Pappas sign that Republicans are concerned about is not on his Copper Door property. He said it is  on adjacent property owned by businessman Dick Anagnost.

“As far as the Copper Door signs,” he said, “almost all are for Republicans.” He also said that since there are actually “10 owners of the Copper Door,” if any of the owners want to display signs for other candidates, he is not going to oppose it.

“I never met Chris Pappas and wouldn’t know Chris Pappas if he walked in front of me,” he said.

Greiner said it is no secret that he contributed to Shaheen’s campaign in past years.

“I did that because she was helpful to me when I had a trade dispute with the Quebec government, a multi-million dollar dispute,” he said. He noted that he has not contributed to her campaign this year.

Greiner also said that in addition to the event for Havenstein, he has also hosted, at the Copper Door, events for the NHGOP, featuring Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, as well as  fundraisers for U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and for 2nd District U.S. House candidate Marilinda Garcia.

(However, other Republicans pointed out that in 2012, Greiner supported Democratic state Senate candidate Lee Nyquist over  Republican Andy Sanborn.)

Pappas faces Republican Bob Burns of Bedford in the general election after Burns defeated Jim Adams in last week’s primary.

Pappas Tuesday unveiled a list of 50 “Republicans for Pappas.” And Gov. Maggie Hassan unveiled a Veterans Committee headed by Republican Griffin Dalianis of Nashua.

Horn’s Facebook message appeared to be an attempt to make clear that she would not remain on the sidelines while Republican activists endorse Democrats.

She wrote:

“I am stunned to see that any Republican would put their name on an effort to promote Chris Pappas for Executive Councilor. Pappas has voted for all of Gov. Hassan’s irresponsible, out-of-control spending, pushing her efforts to force our state into an income tax. Pappas declares that Jeanne Shaheen – who voted with President Obama 99% of the time – is the person in politics he most admires. Anyone who cares about responsible, limited, efficient government can clearly see that Chris Pappas is the wrong man for the job. As Chairman of the NHGOP I will enforce all applicable bylaws that prohibit participation as members of the State Committee to any Republican that endorses or supports a Democrat against a Republican in the 2014 elections.”

Well John you left out the fact that Greiner was Lee Nyquist’s Chair for “Republicans for Nyquist” in 2012 as well against Andy Sanborn. Greiner supports Nyquist again and his signs can also be seen with Pappas’ and Shaheen’s.

Baloney. Republicans Greiner hates were threatened to remove their signs from all property he has anything to do with and that’s a lot. Don’t fall for this.

As usual, the NH GOP is resulting to “purity tests” and “loyalty oaths” instead of maybe .. just maybe .. trying to figure out why they might be losing their appeal amongst their non-teabagger rank and filers…

Oh yes, because a jobless-crappy economy offered up by Democrats is something we all strive for.
Get real. Liberalism is a disaster and Republicans don’t have to do anything to prove it.

Well to just clarify a few things, Griener is trying to weasel out of this. IF you drive further down 101 you will see the Pappas sign in front of the Harvest Market too.
He gleefully supports Shaheen and Nyquist and “calls” himself a Republican.
It’s a brilliant way for a Democrat to infiltrate the Republican party and undermine it in Bedford.

From my understanding, he does have a few SHEEP that follow his advice. I suspect it’s because they are unable to think for themselves?? Why else would you look to a town bully and a sleaze ball for your guidance when voting?

BTW, I’m hearing from many that they will NO longer eat at the Copper Door because of Griener.
Can I suggest the Bedford Village Inn ?? A beautiful restaurant with excellent food. AND…hey, your money wont go to FUND Shaheen, Nyquist and Pappas.

Bill is not the sole owner of the Harvest Market property either. Other investors have input to who’s signs are on the properties. Bill and other investors in the Copper Door have put more time effort and money to support Republican Candidates than most republicans in this state. You should probably focus your efforts elsewhere if you want a Republican sweep in November.

Well, my sympathies to Griener’s stupid partners. Who on earth would go into business with that sleaze ball?
They go into business with the town bully?? Who would be so dumb as to do that?

We’ve watched him with his dumb partner MIke Scanlon trash his neighbors. We’ve watched him destroy Ryk Bullock. We’ve watched him trash the last Republican candidates for State rep. who had NOThiNG to do with Aaron Day and Phillips.

If this is what you are going to put out there I say, BOYCOTT the COPPER DOOR and anything else he’s involved in.

We stopped eating there about a year ago and having small gatherings there.
It might not be a large amount of money taken away from Griener, but since I’m hearing from more people that they are boycotting the Copper Door, I suspect it’s adding up.

Unfortunately a good guy like Boucher will suffer by his association. But no one wants to do business with the TOWN BULLY.

Too bad Joe Stalin isn’t here to lend a helping hand. IIRC, he was pretty good at purifying his base.
