Hassan leads Havenstein by 10 percentage points in latest poll

DURHAM — With nearly half of Granite Staters still trying to make up their minds on who to support, Gov. Maggie Hassan continues to lead Republican challenger Walt Havenstein, according to a new poll released today.

The WMUR Granite State poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, shows that 40 percent of likely voters would vote for Havenstein, 30 percent would vote for Havenstein, 2 percent would vote for someone else and 28 percent are undecided.

When undecided voters were asked who they lean toward supporting, Hassan maintained a 10 percentage point lead, with 46 percent supporting here, 36 percent supporting Havenstein, 2 percent supporting someone else and 16 percent remaining undecided.

The race has tightened since the previous UNH poll, released in August, when Hassan led 49 to 32 percent.

The survey center said it polled 681 New Hampshire adults between Sept. 29 and Oct. 5. The margin of error for the poll is listed at 4.2 percent.

Hassan led 34 to 26 percent among independents and among women, 48 to 23 percent.
