July Fourth Forum PAC praises Romney gay marriage stance

The July Fourth Forum PAC, a conservative statewide Political Action Committee, is voicing its support for comments former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney on the issue of same-sex marriage during a campaign stop in New Hampshire today.

When asked by a voter if he would support the effort to overturn New Hampshire’s recently passed law allowing same-sex marriage, Romney stated that he supported repeal efforts and reiterated his belief in traditional marriage, which he has previously expressed on the campaign trail.

PAC spokesman Jason Rose released the following statement in support of Romney’s position: “Gov. Romney is absolutely right. The framers of our Constitution clearly intended for marriage to be defined as a relationship between one man and one woman,” he continued, “July Fourth Forum PAC strongly supports Gov. Romney’s view. We thank and congratulate him for standing up for traditional marriage, and for clearly affirming his support for restoring traditional marriage in the Granite State.”

    Time Out!
Just where in the Constitution, specifically, is there a discussion of the elements defining a marriage?  Oh wait a second, I’ll lower the bar so even a July 4th Forum PAC animal or The Plastic Man can step over it: cite for me anywhere in that hallowed document where they (the revered Framers) even mention marriage?  Hello, McFly?!  Anyone from 7/4 PAC there?

Now onto a much more interesting aspect.  What is the Constitutional foundation for State involvement in the marriage business at all?  Please, no sophistry of misdirect need apply.  I’m waiting for one intrepid soul from 7/4 PAC, or any independently oriented soul, to provide evidence.

Rights, once extended, cannot be taken away. There are thousands of legally married same sex couples, many with children. Nobody is going to want to be the bad guy.
