Kevin Smith hires DeRosa to staff gubernatorial campaign
Republican gubernatorial candidate Kevin Smith announced on Thursday that he has hired Tom DeRosa as his first campaign staffer. DeRosa is slated to begin his new role in February.
“I’m excited and fortunate to have Tom join my team,” said Smith in a statement. “He has significant statewide experience in New Hampshire politics and campaigns, and will contribute greatly to my efforts to build a successful organization across the state. I look forward to working closely with Tom over the course of the year.”
DeRosa is a veteran of several political campaigns in the state. A graduate of St. Anselm College in Manchester, DeRosa began in politics by coordinating citywide field operations for then Alderman Frank Guinta’s successful mayoral campaign in 2005. He was also state chair of the New Hampshire College Republicans. DeRosa served as a field representative for Mitt Romney’s New Hampshire primary campaign in 2007 and 2008. He then joined the staff of the Republican StateCommittee as political director during the 2008 general election.
In early 2009, DeRosa received significant notoriety as the founder and original publisher of the successful Republican web site, RedHampshire.com. Also in 2009, DeRosa returned to theNHGOP under the chairmanship of Governor John H. Sununu to direct the committee’s online campaign and research efforts. He also played a pivotal role in many of the NHGOP’s successful special elections in the state legislature, and then in securing historic, veto-proof majorities in both the State Senate and House of Representatives in November 2010. Most recently, DeRosa has worked at the Derry Medical Center as its director of marketing and public relations.
“My campaign is growing everyday, and I intend to work very hard for each and every vote,” Smith continued. “Tom DeRosa’s knowledge and experience in grassroots campaigning is unmatched by his peers. I’m confident that his leadership will play a very big role as our campaign progresses.”
