Medical marijuana to pass the (Republican) Senate today?
State House sources tell the Journal there is a strong possibility that the Republican-controlled Senate will pass a bill that would make it legal for doctors to prescribe medical marijuana to their patients. The measure passed the House in March and unexpectedly passed the Senate Health and Human Services Committee. It now seems poised to pass the full Senate.
Last year, the New Hampshire House voted to soften the law on marijuana but the Senate killed the bill under a veto threat from Democratic Gov. John Lynch. What makes the reemergence of the medical marijuana bill so intriguing is the fact that the Senate was so radically remade after the 2010 Republican landslide.
