New Hampshire Union Leader calls on Kimball to leave

The powerful New Hampshire Union Leader called for Jack Kimball to step down as Chairman of the New Hampshire Republican State Committee in a Friday editorial that follows months of bad press about his performance in office.

“We don’t pretend to know just what ails the state Republican Party apparatus at the moment, but if party chairman Jack Kimball hasn’t stepped down by the time this piece goes public, we hope he will take the hint soon,” reads the editorial.

“[Granite State voters] were eager for an alternative,” it concludes. “But that alternative doesn’t spring, full-grown, from the earth. It needs care and feeding. Sununu did that. Kimball has not. The party needs a change, now.”

The call comes after the Executive Committee decided to hold a special meeting next week to remove Kimball. Kimball then retorted in an e-mail that they would have to wait until September 1st, according to Party bylaws. Meanwhile, NH Journal is told Kimball spent time attempting to rally his troops with a furious round of phone calls to tea party leaders. As of this filing, it is unclear how Kimball’s allies – or perhaps former allies – responded.

The Union Leader also calls on the federal delegation and Speaker Bill O’Brien to step in and assert some control over the party. NH Journal has learned that there has been extensive communications among these leaders and each of them has expressed a deep level of concern about that state of the Republican Party.

The Kimball issue is symptomatic of a larger one: A battle between the Tea Party and the GOP establishment for control of the NH Republican Party. It’s too bad that a few mistakes of Jack have given establishment forces ready-made excuses for pushing him out.

If the NH GOP is to survive as a viable force for real change; that is, to enable “We the People” to “take back” our government, it’s important that the Tea Party forces rally and work relentlessly to take over the  NH Republican Party.  PETER BEARSE, former candidate for Congress in the Republican primary of 2010

There is no battle. Perhaps there is resentment from the establishment but they should get over it and be team players.

the real issue is Kimball has done nothing Peter…to make this a tea party versus GOP establishment is a distraction…I’m still looking for the list of accomplishment Jack’s had since taking control…

Unfounded rumors as usuall. Kimball made no such calls.

Kimball has done nothing as chair of the NH GOP…the tea party rallying to take over the NH GOP stopped right after the election in 2010…electing Jack was never a good idea…he has no demonstrated involvement in the NH GOP prior to running for governor…his abilities to raise money as a candidate were less then stellar…

I wish someone would list his accomplishments as chair so we all understand what value he has brought to the table beyond being concerned for our state and country…

As usual NH Journal is full of bull. I just called TP HQ and confirmed that Jack Kimball never “spent time attempting to rally his troops with a furious round of phone calls to tea party leaders.”

They love to make this stuff up don’t they? They can blame TEA PARTY all they want for what is going on in the GOP but the tea party is a separate entity and had nothing to do with it.

I agree with Mr. Bearse 100%. There seems to be a battle between the Tea Party and the GOP establishment with the help of the NH Journal for control of the NH Republican Party. Shameful.
