NH Journal Election Contest Winner Revealed

We thought that our readers were wired in and their election predictions proved us right. Overall New Hampshire Journal readers predicted 75% of the races correctly. That is pretty impressive given that there is little to no public polling for Executive Council and State Senate races in New Hampshire.

The race that surprised our readers the most, Carol Shea-Porter’s upset of Congressman Frank Guinta. Only 12% of our readers correctly predicted the outcome of that race.

On the flip side there were three races that everyone had right: Jeb Bradley, Bob Odell and Chris Sununu. That’s right one reader actually predicted Ray Burton would lose.

Now, which of you knows New Hampshire politics best? There was a three way tie between former WMUR political reporter Scott Spradling; Union Leader and New Hampshire Journal columnist Fergus Cullen; and State Representative Timothy Horrigan (D-Durham). All three correctly predicted the outcome of 29 of the 32 races, a very impressive 91%.

Cullen was the only contestant who correctly predicted the outcome of every State Senate race. Both he and Spradling were fooled by the first CD race. Of the three winners only Representative Horrigan correctly predicted the outcome of the four big races.

Congratulations to our winners and thank you to everyone who participated.
