NH may seek birth record from presidential filers

By NORMA LOVE

CONCORD, N.H. — Presidential candidates who want to be on New Hampshire’s primary ballot next year may have to produce a birth certificate under a proposal being brought before a state House committee.

Election Law Chairman David Bates said his committee will consider a bill Wednesday to require candidates to provide a birth certificate and affidavit swearing they are at least 35 years old and have lived in the United States for 14 years, as called for in the U.S. Constitution to qualify for the presidency.

“They need to produce a certified copy of the long form of their birth certificate and an affidavit swearing to residency,” the Windham Republican said Tuesday.

New Hampshire holds the earliest presidential primaries and takes pride that its voters help launch contenders toward the White House.

Bates said the purpose of the bill is to ensure that only those truly qualified for the presidency are on the ballot. He emphasized that the measure was not aimed at President Barack Obama, and said he may seek to make the bill effective in 2013 after the next election. If New Hampshire sought to make the requirement effective immediately, “then we’ll have a circus,” he predicted.

Meanwhile, House Republican Leader D.J. Bettencourt issued a statement against the measure.

“It is unnecessary and detracts from important business, namely our economy,” he said. “Moreover, this potential amendment could represent a threat to our first in the nation primary as it gives other states reason and desire to try to jump us in line.”

Obama critics have raised questions about whether he was born in the United States. At least 10 states have proposed legislation seeking more proof before his name is placed on the 2012 presidential election ballot.

Obama was born in Hawaii. But even though Hawaii officials have repeatedly confirmed his citizenship, his birth certificate has been made public and courts have rebuffed challenges, the issue has not gone away.

Bates said he has been assured that states have procedures to produce birth certificates if the original records have been destroyed or a birth certificate was never issued.

If Bates’ committee approves the bill, it then goes to the House for a vote.

Obama has NOT provided his birth certificate. He needs to show the long, hospital-issued, with signatures, certified version. He refuses do to so plus no one at any of the hospitals in Hawaii can say they were there and they remember the birth. Surely he would have one to show, so why not show it and put the issue to rest? Because it doesn’t exist.

Dear Steve, Thank you for proving once again that folks on the left side of the political spectrum must substitute name calling for facts and rational argument. The following is a fact from a Hawaii newspaper. There is no Obama long form birth certificate in Hawaii.
        – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -

Pressure was mounting on Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie amid increasing confusion over whether President Obama was born there.

Abercrombie said on Tuesday that an investigation had unearthed papers proving Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961.

He told Honolulu’s Star-Advertiser: ‘It actually exists in the archives, written down,’ he said.

But it became apparent that what had been discovered was an unspecified listing or notation of Obama’s birth that someone had made in the state archives and not a birth certificate.

And in the same interview Abercrombie suggested that a long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate for Barack Obama may not exist within the vital records maintained by the Hawaii Department of Health.

          So what?

  • ProudBlackMan

I am so sick of the so-called news media mis-stating the facts. HE HAS NEVER SHOWN ANYTHING other than a computer generated photoshopped copy which confirms nothing about his actual birth. I had to produce my BC for a recent job, I contacted the courthouse in my hometown which is 500 miles from me and where I have not lived since birth, yet low and behold two of the ladies at the courthouse remembered me, the doctor who delivered me and the exact day I was born. I received an original Birth Certficate with the Doctors name, time of delivery, hospital, footprints everything. I was born is 1960 and yet they had it for me within 5 minutes at a cost of $10. Doesn’t it seem really odd that as popular as Obama is that NOT ONE PERSON remembers him being born, no doctors, no nurses, nobody, except his Grandmother in Kenya, she’s the only person on the planet who say’s she was present at his birth, in Kenya. The neighbors at the house in HI that he supposedly lived in as an infant, DON’T REMEBER HIM and they have been in that house since the 50′s. He supposedly went to the finest schools, yet again, NOT ONE PERSON REMEMBERS HIM. Even the class president DOESN’T EVER REMEMBER HIM BEING THERE. Forget the actual Birth Certificate, just use logic, somebody would have remembered this guy and corroberated his stories. Not to mention that Hawaii has never produced a single shred of hard evidence, NOTHING. This whole thing stinks and at the end of the day it will all come out and we will finally know the truth. Maybe then we will also find out how and why he has over 30 Social Secuirty numbers registered to him and why the one he is currently ising belonged to a person who was born in 1890 and died in the 70′s, after Obama had already worked for Baskin Robbins in Honalulu. This guy’s entire life story is a total fabrication. Think about it, before the 08 election, who had ever heard of Barack Obama? And by the way, regardless of Obama, whats wrong with checking a PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE’S credentials? I mean this is the highest most influential position you could ever achieve, effecting the lives and prosperity of our entire population and he isn’t required to produce proof of his birth, history and or especially his education? Try and get a job as CEO for a company without providing evidence that you are who you say you are, they will laugh you out of the building. Yet to be President you don’t have to produce a single shred of proof that you have the ability or the experinece to perform your duties. The President works for the American people, we are his employer, we have the right to know who is controlling our future just like a company has the right to know who is controlling their future, it’s that simple. We have the right to know who he really is. And by the way, if Obama is totally legitimate as he and the media say he is, why would he or anyone have a problem with making it a law for a candidate to belly-up the docs to prove who they are. Not just Obama, but any candidate, RIGHT? There should be no problem. I voted for Obama last time and I sure as heck didn’t start out as “Birther”, but after doing my own homework and trying in my own mind to vindicate him, I ended up with far more questions than answers. WHO IS HE, REALLY??? Unless he produces these documents I could never vote for him again. He obviously has something to hide. WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

Why is your screen name “Proud Black Man” when you’re an angry white moron?

      • Buckeye Red

Why does he have to be an angry white moron just because he wants to see Obama’s birth certificate? Why can’t a black man question Obama? You, Steve Rogers, are a racist.

        • Steve Rogers

Because it’s generally angry white morons who have been freaking out over the fact that the president is a black dude, and are desperately casting about for some reason to imagine he’s somehow not really president. Which he is, and will be through the end of his second term in 2017.

Typical Lib logic, if something is generally true, then is must always be true. They are evidently incapable of comprehending the concept of subsets. Perhaps remedial elementary school math is in order for Steve the Moron. If the shoe fits, were it with pride. By the way, Steve, there appears to be an opening for Bigfoot atop Mt. Moron. Hope to see you there among your tribe.

I had to show my birth certificate at work to prove I was a legal citizen!!!
    So why not Barry????

  • Jojo

There are a lot of folks, like whoopy goldberg, that do not care whether he is or he is not a natural born citizen of the United States. Some how, someway, these folks reason that it does not matter. As far I know, every president prior to our current one has produced a certified copy of their long form birth certificate. Trump said “If he has it, WHY doesn’t he produce it??”, which is a fair and valid question.
It’s amazing to me how many people support something they have no way of know is true. Talk about bias.
