NH Unemployment Rate Drops To 4.9 Percent

CONCORD, N.H. — New Hampshire’s April unemployment rate of 4.9 percent is at its lowest level since the fall of 2008.
That compares to a national rate of 9 percent.

The federal government reports that New Hampshire’s jobless rate in March was 5.2 percent, the fourth lowest in the nation behind North Dakota, Nebraska and South Dakota. Vermont had the fifth lowest rate in March at 5.4 percent.

New Hampshire’s jobless rate climbed during the recession before peaking in the fall of 2009 at 6.7 percent. State labor statistics show the jobless rate and number of unemployed workers has steadily dropped since January 2010.
