Poll: Romney rocks, Perry pops, Bachmann doesn’t bounce

Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney remains in a commanding position in the first-in-the-nation primary state while Texas Gov. Rick Perry makes a strong first showing in the latest NH Journal survey conducted by Magellan Strategies.

Meanwhile, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann appears not to have experienced a bump from her victory at the Ames, IA straw poll conducted last weekend. In fact 84% of respondents said the Ames straw poll results have no impact on their decision to support a candidate.

On the ballot Romney remains in a strong position. He leads all candidates with 36% of the vote. However, Perry, making his first appearance in the NH Journal poll, debuts with a strong 18%. Ron Paul continues to impress despite relatively little media attention with 14%. And Bachmann earns 10%. All other candidates were in single digits.

Among all voters surveyed Romney remains very popular with a favorable rating of 66% and an unfavorable rating of 24%. Perry also has a significantly favorable image ratio of 51% F / 27% U.

Other candidates though are seeing their negative image ratings rise. Bachmann is still more popular than not with a 49% favorable rating. But 39% say they have an unfavorable opinion of her. Meanwhile, former Obama administration official Jon Huntsman (20% F / 47% U), former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (29% F / 60% U), Texas Rep. Ron Paul (39% F / 47% U) and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum (30% F / 42% U) each have more respondents who say they don’t like them than do. Herm Cain breaks about even with a 36% favorable rating versus 34% unfavorable.

The case of Bachmann is especially interesting. She remains very popular among self-identified conservatives with a 62% Favorable rating and a 28% Unfavorable rating. But it is a completely different story among Independents, 51% of who view her Unfavorably, while only 40% view her Favorably. The split in the voting public’s view of Bachmann demonstrates the uniquely complex texture of the New Hampshire electorate

The topline results and crosstabs are published below.

The survey was conducted on August 15 and August 16 among 613 New Hampshire Republicans and Republican-leaning independent likely voters. The survey has a margin of error of +/- 3.96% at the 95 percent confidence interval.

Ron Paul is in 3rd place in your poll. Why does the opening paragraph mention Bachmann, and not him? This is a perfect example of “relatively little media attention” you talk about. Be a part of the solution, not the problem.

I’m hoping Ron Paul wins the nomination.  Would love to know how much coverage Fox News would send his way going into the election.

    Bachmann is toast.  http://awe.sm/5RAfs

      Fox future headlines…
      Before November:
“Obama will cruise to victory after GOP melt down.”
      After November:
“Obama loses in surprise vote.” (no mention of the winner (Ron Paul))
      Innauguration day:
“Some guy besides Obama sworn in today”

  • Me

Typical not to mention Ron Paul anywhere! Even though he was 3rd

I never heard of Ron Paul till today. Wow, hes awesome!

Enjoy!  There is nothing like the gold standard and Ron Paul is the gold standard of decency, quality, intelligence and integrity.  He presents decades of flawless congressional service.

  • Saber

This poll would be more interesting if it included Gary Johnson.  He’s probably that “other” 3% above three other candidates.

  • Gene Sampson

I do not know what people see in Romney and Perry besides career politician.  They’ll say what the people want to hear and then do whatever the lobbyists and advisers tell them to do.  Never do political philosophy or IDEAS or the Constitution ever actually come into play.

    • Joe Mama

Wait you mean all of the other Republican candidates haven’t ALWAYS had a big problem with the Federal Reserve? Hehe. Thanks to Ron Paul’s legislation, we finally got to see the horror of what the Fed was up to and only NOW are they suddenly repeating the same thing Ron Paul has been saying for years.

It amazes me people can still try to claim Paul is crazy despite the fact that he’s been proven exactly right on so many things he has been predicting. Remember how everyone complained that nobody saw the economic collapse coming and tried to prevent it? Guess what? Ron Paul was warning us about exactly that for years! How can this guy NOT be in the White House? Seriously!

  • Conradical09

Again this article is down playing Ron Paul by not even mentioning his name in the title, are serious?!. The status quo is terrified of Ron Paul because he his is winning and they know it.

And may I remind everyone that there is only ONE candidate running for
President who hasn’t compromised principles due to political pressure.
Only ONE who has voted against EVERY tax increase and against EVERY
unbalanced budget. That candidate is Ron Paul!
    Go Ron!

In Texas, Ron Paul is far more popular than Perry (favors corporate-monopoly toll roads and mandatory Gardasil injections for little girls).

  • Helen Delarue

Native Texan here. Witnessing the media blitz of Congressman Paul let me tell ya our local congressmen are scared to death of Ron Paul. Touting Perry they know what Perry is all about and that is what they want, more of the same ol same ol “business as usual.” Ron Paul has NEVER voted to raise taxes, Ron Paul returns a portion of his congressional budget to the Treasury every year, declined the lucrative pension Congress voted for themselves. Ron Paul is not an isolationist, bet a non interventionist. People SAY they want all the wars to end, they SAY they want the soldiers home, they SAY they want the government off their back, yet they keep onlistening to mainstream media who are in the pockets of their advertisers…do what they are told…which is to minimize Ron Paul as much as possible. The globalists and big moneyed people are scared of him, don’t want to lose their gravy trains. As long as we keep letting mainstream media control us and what we think, we will keep getting same ol same ol “business as usual”.

  • Helen Delarue

Rick Perry, on the other hand, attended the Bilderberger conference in 2007 which should be a red flag to all Americans and should be prosecuted for violating the Logan Act…sold our roads to foreign investors, facilitated the biggest buyout ever of TxU (Texas utilities) to globalists…and if ya don’t know what a smart meter is, better look it up. Eventually everyone will have them. Californians are protesting them furiously. ERCOT wants to be able to control the temp inside our home…more intrusion from the government. As for me, a native Texan, I intend to vote Ron Paul in the primary and if he doesn’t make it, oh well, the others are the same as Obama. They would sell their mother for a vote.

Iowa polls were proven very wrong

In the middle of the article, they reveal that Ron Paul is the FRONT Runner in a head to head poll against Obama:

    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05/05/cnn-poll-still-no-front-runner-in-the-battle-for-the-gop-nomination/

I’m hoping that Congress and Washington will see the biggest backlash against their corruption and greed this country has ever seen.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001133109672 Chris Buck

I am disappointed that U.S. Representative and declared Presidential Candidate Thad McCotter was not included in the poll. McCotter is a sitting U.S. Congressman, a leader in the House of Representatives, and deserves to be able to articulate his message to the voters of New Hampshire.

    • Deroberg

Thad brought a group of vans to Iowa and drew 35 votes.  Why bother?

The real players here are Paul, Perry, and Romney.  If we can maintain this pressure on the media, I would say Ron Paul will be a clear GOP winner.

So, +/- 4% margin of error and Ron Paul is only in 3rd place by about 4% yet the media declare him ‘unelect… oh never mind. It’s like talking to a brick wall.

Magellan Strategies.is a marketing firm wonder if they associated  with any of these business candidates hmm.
Or have any of these used there services kind of interesting because that would just be wrong.
Possibly effect the reliability of this poll.

  • Jay

Kind of off strange all comments for a candidate are for our next President Ron Paul.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Chingatch-Croute/100000818604001 Chingatch Croute

Even stranger is the lack of coverage by the CFR dominated old media.

  • Beppo

Romney quit Iowa so guess where his votes went to? i believe to Bachmann, which is the only reason Ron Paul did not win (3% for Romney at Iowa? c’mon!)  now that Romney is playing Bachmann’s real support will have to show up

  • Anonymous

Hilarious how Ron Paul being only four points away from Ricky Perry in a very strong third place is is not mentioned in the title!  Unfortunately for the mainstream media, the power of the internet takes away a lot of their efforts in creating false choices.  No wonder why the media hates the internet so much — it is taking away their power.

I think it is very surprising that despite the censorship of Ron Paul as Jon Stewart has documented, that he is at 14% in New Hampshire and just four points away from Perry!  And let’s just wait and see how many more stupid things Perry does….

  • Anonymous

Two things I’d like to point out. The candidate that’s in first in the poll is a liberal in conservative clothing, and two the results aren’t surprising given the poll was in NH.

What a joke!  You mention 1st, 2nd and 4th place – but not a mention of Ron Paul – who got 3rd place in this “poll” – till the 3rd paragraph.  This article is a perfect example of how the media is blacking out Ron Paul when you can’t even mention the poll results in logical order.  This is such an obvious display of censorship and people are noticing.  People have a RIGHT to vote for who they want, and whether you agree with Ron Paul or not, we STILL have a right to make our own decisions and not have Mainstream Media tell us WHO we vote for.  EVERY candidate should have equal coverage.   What is Mainstream Media so afraid of?

Mr. Hynes – I am curious – did your team of “journalists” get a memo forbidding you to mention Ron Paul?
