Since taking office in January, Rep. Carol Shea-Porter hasn’t quite cultivated a reputation for frequent public appearances. Far from, actually.
Her record of dodging the press and her constituents makes a scheduled July 29th appearance in Portsmouth for WMUR’s Leaders Listen worth noting, or at the least placing bets on how far out she’ll call off the appearance.
The event is set to be held at the Seacoast Repertory Theater, which begins at noon.
Political insiders speculate that what amounts to a flurry of a public appearances by Shea-Porter could be traced to recently published polling data showing her on rocky ground ahead of next year’s election.
A recent poll showed her holding an evenly split 41-41% favorable/unfavorable rating, and former Rep. Frank Guinta would begin a rematch ahead by 6 points, 47-41. Of course, onlookers have decried the poll’s methodology as flawed, but numbers below 50 percent tend to alarm incumbents.
Enough to spark an emergence from hiding, it seems.
