Solyndra New Hampshire? Obama Admin Grants $169M Loan Guarantee To NH Wind Farm

The U.S. Department of Energy announced Friday that it is providing a loan guarantee for a $168.9 million wind farm project in Coos County. The loan guarantees come through the same renewable energy program that may have cost taxpayers more than $500 million in the Solyndra solar energy bankruptcy.

The loan guarantee goes to Granite Reliable Power, LLC, which plans to install 33 wind turbines in the town of Dummer and the unincorporated locations of Millsfield, Dixville, Odell, and Erving’s Location. The turbines will not be visible from the Balsams Resort, but will be located in that general part of the state.

Granite Reliable Power is owned by Noble Environmental Power, a Connecticut company. The power generated by the wind farm is set to be sold to two Vermont utilities, Central Vermont Public Service Corp. and Green Mountain Power Corp. Proposed wind farm projects to be sited in Vermont have run into local opposition.

Granite Reliable Power is promising the project will result in temporary local construction jobs and long term PILOT revenue.

The project has been permitted by the NH Site Evaluation Committee through the state Department of Environmental Services.
