State GOP spent big in Kimball’s first month

The New Hampshire Republican State Committee spent five times more than it raised in the month of February, the first full month under the chairmanship of Jack Kimball, according to a new report filed with the Federal Election Commission.

The report shows the GOP raised $4,248 while spending $21,490.46 from its federal account between February 1st and February 28th. The party had $27,877.19 cash on hand at the beginning of the month, most of it cash left behind by the previous chairman. But by the end of the month it only had $10,634.73 on hand.

The party also has a state account, which has less rigid reporting requirements. It is possible the state account is flush with cash.

“As of the end of February, our cash on hand was $10,635.00. We have had an overwhelming response to our fundraising efforts with four fundraisers in March including our First-In-The-Nation Celebration fundraiser featuring RNC Chairman Reince Priebus,” GOP spokesperson Christine Baratta told NH Journal.

The report does not include proceeds from a recent state party fundraiser with Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. But it also only includes the salary of one staffer. Chairman Kimball has added two more staffers to the payroll since then.

Some high-level Republican donors have privately expressed a reluctance to play ball with the state party after Kimball refused to condemn a birther and alleged anti-Semite who was scheduled to speak at a local GOP event. Under pressure, Kimball eventually cancelled the event. Other donors are waiting for the new Republican majority in Concord to follow through on the economic and fiscal promises that got them elected last November.
